Simon Lightman

Simon is a specialist sourcing and technology lawyer at global law firm Eversheds Sutherland.   He has over 15 years’ experience assisting both buyers and sellers on strategic sourcings across multiple sectors including financial services, retail, FMCG, telecoms and aviation.

Before returning to private practice in 2017, Simon spent time working in-house as a legal director and divisional commercial director at a major BPO provider.

Simon regularly advises on the restructuring and renegotiation of legacy sourcing arrangements and advising on complex sourcings, software licensing, cloud and other “as a service” technology and technology enabled arrangements.  He also advises on contracting for new and disruptive technologies including automation and artificial intelligence.

Simon’s goal for his time on the council is to challenge the ways in which we approach contracts, from avoiding adversarial approaches to negotiations to promoting alternatives ways to documenting arrangements, including through the use of ‘design thinking’ and visual elements in contracts.

Simon speaks regularly on sourcing, technology and data subjects, and has a particular interest in robotics as well as financial services regulation on outsourcing.
