Well, I have no concerns about the future of the strategic sourcing profession. This week the GSA has been judging the candidates shortlisted for our Professional Awards, including the industry’s rising stars! And I must say I have been so impressed by every single one of them. The calibre of the candidates this year has been outstanding - both in terms of their capabilities and determination to deliver value, and their vision for the future. But what has captured me the most has been their passion. Each and every one of them has been so enthusiastic about the industry and profession - positively infectious! It’s clear we have a great pool of talent that will make phenomenal captains of industry of the future. But, we just don’t have enough of them. Talent is by far the biggest issue in sourcing today. We need to stop this being the accidental profession. We need to better promote the industry to attract talent in from school leaver age upwards. To that effect, on 25 June in Belfast, Northern Ireland (itself a huge hotbed for talent) we are hosting our Strategic Sourcing Summit and Professional Awards and within that we are launching the GSA’s Competencies and Capabilities Framework that maps out the skillsets at every level of the profession. We are also launching our Strategic Sourcing Professional Ambassadors Programme.
